Michelle Turner – 2024 ACF VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

The ACF Volunteer of the Year Award honours an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the calisthenics community through their dedication, teamwork and leadership. Nominees are evaluated by a panel assembled by the ACF Board, based on criteria such as administrative accomplishments, teamwork, role modelling, contributions to the growth of calisthenics, and involvement in event activities.

Michelle Turner is the 2024 recipient of the ACF Volunteer of the Year Award – an individual who has contributed to all levels and across all platforms of the sport. Michelle is a dedicated volunteer with a rich history in calisthenics. Introduced to the ACF by former President Lynne Hayward, Michelle initially took on the role of ACF Treasurer. Her unwavering belief in giving back has driven her to contribute at various levels, from executive roles to grassroots efforts like making sandwiches for classes. Michelle’s commitment stems from the joy calisthenics has brought her over the years, and she strives to enhance the sport for future generations.

As a Director of Calisthenics Queensland and former Secretary of CAQI, Michelle has shouldered significant responsibilities, including navigating the complex process of transitioning CAQI to a company limited by guarantee. Her proudest achievement has been the implementation of live streaming, a visionary idea that has revolutionized calisthenics across Australia. Additionally, Michelle cherishes the camaraderie and spirit of the Cali Unite events, where participants from all over the country come together to celebrate their shared passion for the sport.

Looking ahead, Michelle aims to continue advocating for the unique needs of Queensland’s calisthenics community and addressing the broader challenges facing community sports. She emphasizes the importance of volunteering, no matter how small the contribution, in sustaining the sport. Her advice to aspiring volunteers is simple: give what you can, stay organized, and remain dedicated. Michelle’s vision for the future includes a balance of volunteerism and the integration of paid resources to ensure the smooth operation of calisthenics clubs and associations.

ACF congratulates Michelle on her achievements.
