Anna Collins – From Cartwheels to Championships.
Although Anna Collins first experience with calisthenics ended in tears due to a failed cartwheel, she returned three years later, nailed the cartwheel, and never looked back. Anna competed in three NT Representative teams during her junior and intermediate years, developing a lifelong aversion to leg tan and blue eyeshadow. Fast-tracked to earn her Level 1 accreditation at 15 with the support of Kylie Sincock, a coach who significantly influenced her, Anna knew she wanted to emulate Kylie’s passion and kindness as a coach. After leaving Darwin for university and later returning, she reconnected with calisthenics as a parent, coach, and club administrator.
Anna’s proudest moments include watching her students succeed in moves they once deemed “too hard,” and her experiences at the NT Team Championships this year stand out. After a 24-year hiatus, she returned to the stage to compete. She also proudly stood beside her daughter, Alaina, whose team won the Junior Team Championships. Anna’s dedication to the sport and her ability to mentor and inspire others, especially her daughter, make her achievements even more significant.
Anna’s commitment to the sport in the Northern Territory fuels her motivation. As the President of NT Calisthenics she is passionate about keeping calisthenics active, and uses her experience to teach and inspire others. Outside of calisthenics, Anna enjoys baking, traveling, and spending time with her family. She hopes to continue contributing to the sport by developing coaches and participants, expanding performance opportunities, and possibly leading a team to AusCaliCarnivale next year. Her efforts have already increased interest in the skills program, and she is keen to explore further opportunities to demonstrate the value of calisthenics programs.
