Belinda Williams – WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
Belinda’s journey in calisthenics began when she was just two years old. Her innate competitiveness and love for performing made calisthenics the perfect fit. The sport’s unique blend of team and individual components appealed to her, providing the variety she had been missing in other pursuits. It’s clear that Belinda’s passion for calisthenics was forged from an early age and has only grown stronger over time.
Her motivations for coaching were sparked when watching the National Competition in Canberra in 1996 at the age of seven. Watching the senior section – she knew that she wanted to be a State Team coach – and she is proud to have achieved that goal. Belinda takes pride in the camaraderie and State rivalry that Nationals foster, especially in ACT, with its smaller but vibrant cohort. She finds inspiration in the willingness of her teams to step out of their comfort zones and embrace challenges—a testament to the trust and dedication that define her coaching ethos.
Belinda’s 2025 ACT Senior State team stands out for their incredible cohesion, working together as if they’ve been teammates for years despite the newness of their collaboration. Their drive to perfect their craft is inspiring, and Belinda fosters camaraderie by encouraging her team to support each other, emphasizing the shared goal they are all working toward. She reminds them that “We are all in this together” – encouraging them to look out for, and encourage, each other. A humorous prop malfunction at one concert may not be their standout moment yet, but it exemplifies the camaraderie and perseverance that Belinda’s coaching nurtures.
For emerging coaches, Belinda highlights the unparalleled rewards of coaching at the State level, which she credits for her personal growth and expanded network within Australian calisthenics. She encourages teams to have fun and embrace the experience, noting that enjoyment often leads to better performances under pressure. Her advice to participants is simple yet profound: live the moment, let go of negativity, and make every stage moment count.
Belinda looks to the future of calisthenics with excitement and optimism, particularly for this year’s AusCaliCarnivale, where a larger pool of teams promises a dynamic and thrilling competition. She is deeply committed to the progression of National calisthenics competitions, emphasizing their vital role in advancing the sport and expressing her passion for continuing as a State-level coach.
As a valued member of the calisthenics community, Belinda credits the sport for instilling resilience and confidence that extends beyond the stage. She takes immense pride in her innovative coaching approach, which has consistently yielded successful and joyful teams, and hopes her methods will inspire the next generation of coaches and athletes.
