Louisa Humphries – Dreams Take Time – Celebrating RSSS 2024 Graceful Solo Winners.
Louisa has achieved dreams in her calisthenics career that she never thought possible – including competing in 15 State teams, winning National Graceful Solo Championship at both Intermediate and Senior levels, achieving Gold Medal with Honours, and now winning the RSSS 2024 Graceful Solo competition. This win was a pinnacle moment for Louisa, symbolizing years of dedication and hard work. Her victory was not just personal but also a tribute to her supporters, friends, coach Rochelle, and her parents, who have been instrumental in her journey. For her, to be a part of the most prestigious calisthenics competition in Australia felt like an achievement in itself – to win was indescribably magical and overwhelming.
She has come a long way from the shy girl whose calisthenics journey began at the tender age of three when a neighbour inspired her Mum to look at Calisthenics as a sport. An active child – Louisa participated in various sports like state athletics, soccer, and swimming. However, it was performing that truly captured her heart and has led to a 22 year strong career in Calisthenics. Louisa emphasizes the importance of believing in oneself, even during tough times. Her training regime is rigorous, involving a lot of repetition and mirror work, and she stresses the need for mental and physical preparation. Louisa advises newcomers to keep practicing and trying new things, believing that if the desire is strong enough, improvement will follow. She wants people to remember that she herself did not place in a Graceful competition until she was 15 – “Dreams take time.”
The calisthenics community has profoundly impacted Louisa’s life, providing her with lifelong friendships and a strong work ethic. She hopes to inspire others through her journey, emphasizing the value of being true to oneself on stage. Outside of calisthenics, Louisa has a Bachelor of Media and Communications, double majoring in broadcast, journalism and advertising. She is a qualified Pilates instructor, enjoys fitness activities, social gatherings, shopping, and musicals. For now, she’s focused on savoring every moment of her current achievements and looks forward to continuing her performance and coaching at Athena Seniors in 2025.
